Wal-Mart Being Sued for Failing to Cater to Stupid People Who Don’t Use Contraception!
|
Can you believe it? Women in the state of Massachusetts are suing Walmart for failing to carry the “morning after” contraception pill in their pharmacies.
In other words, these women are suing Wal-Mart because Walmart has refused to carry contraception for stupid people - i.e. something to take in the morning when they realize “oh darn, I did it, and didn’t use contraception. Silly me.”
Now, this is NOT a rant about “right to choose” versus “right to life” or anything else like that. There are any number of places that a woman who really needs a “morning after” pill can get one. This is about women who are too stupid to bother actually using contraception, or contraception which they can control and they can be sure won’t fail. Now, yes, it can be argued that it they are that stupid, that they are too stupid to be allowed to breed, too, but that’s not the point.
The point is tht they are suing a store for not carrying it!!!
They are suing Wal-Mart under a state law which requires pharmacies to carry “commonly prescribed medicines”.
Again, this is an emergency morning after pill, not planned contraception.
So I say, if the morning after pill - which is supposed to be an emergency measure - is a “commonly prescribed medicine” in Massachusetts, well, then, there are more stupid women in Massachusetts than I’d thought.

You know, I was always on the women’s side in this case, but now I can really see it from the other side. Thanks

Hate to bring this up, but what about rape and incest? Not all women who need the morning after pill are stupid or lazy, some are tragic victims. Do you honestly want to make their day after even worse?

No, you don’t hate to bring it up.
But really, why sue Wal-Mart for not carrying it. Go somewhere else.

Maybe it isn’t a case of the number of stupid people in MA, but a case of how profitable the pills would be. Pharmacies make decisions all the time about what pills to stock.

Fair comment. But on the other hand… some people don’t like to use the pill - side effects can be fairly nasty. Using other methods of contraception is still considered responsible as far as I can make out. Ever had a condom break? Or, for argument’s sake, what say you had a busy day yesterday and just plum FORGOT to take the pill?
Now you personally may not disagree with the morning-after pill in principle, but there are plenty of people who do. And one of the characterists of this drug is that it IS extremely time-limited. Add to this the fact that of the the typical effects of places like WALMART is to drive other businesses in the area into closure, thus negating the option of going elsewhere, and I can see why people would get upset.

Er… and just who gets to define the metric as to what is stupid and what isn’t?
