Teachers Make Up Fake Gunman Attack to Scare Elementary School Students - and It Works - WTF Were They Thinking??
|
I was absolutely *stunned* today to read this headline: “Teachers Stage Fake Gunman Attack on Sixth-Graders”
It happened in Murfreesboro, Tennessee
The gist of it, according to CNN, was this:
Staff members of the school in Murfreesboro TN convinced nearly 70 children that there was a gunman on the loose, while they were out on a field trip. Not only did the teachers stage this mock attack, but they told the children that “it was not a drill,” as, and I quote, “the children cried and hid under tables.”
Accoring to CNN, “parents of the sixth-graders were outraged.”
Outraged? OUTRAGED???
I should hope so.
I hope that someone is suing them to the wall. The teachers, the principle, the school district, the whole lot of them.
Because nothing is going to undo the trauma those poor kids experienced.
While being a moron, and excercising poor judgement is not, of its own, illegal, guess what? Causing someone to reasonably believe they are in danger of bodily injury is. It’s called “assault”.
And I hope they get nailed for it.
Causing someone severe emotional distress is legally actionaable too.
And I hope they get nailed for that, too.
What would you do if someone took your kid out on a field trip, then caused your child to actually believe that they were being attacked by gunmen, and your child was cowering under a table, crying and believing they were about to be shot dead??
As for the principal at the school in question - her response? That the teachers showed “poor judgement.”
Uh, yeah.
I’m so glad that we homeschool.

Bugger the litigation. I’m sorry, but any teacher that pulls this with my children is going have more to worry about than some lawyer writing them a letter.
