Cell Phone Rant:
I truly believe our lovely society (please note strong disdain) has coached us into thinking we must be entertained and must be in constant contact with others to feel better about ourselves. I mean, look at cell phones and some people who need their phone on them at all times, (and they talk and talk and freaking TALK all the time to this one while they’re out to lunch with that one and then another one calls and it never ends. In stores, in restaurants, in the car.). Who the hell needs to be in touch with people that much!?!?
Society also provides us with MANY options for passively stimulating entertainment (video games, television, computers) which is an implication that if we are just “being,” and not doing anything concrete, that it is not okay.
I freaking LOVE solitude and I CRAVE silence. I just feel like I’ve spent so many years of my life surrounded by mobs of people and I ran here and there, chasing the company of others to quiet the screaming in my head. There is such peace being by myself and realizing that serenity comes from within. I am tired of getting voicemails and emails from people who insist I’m hibernating, isolating, and/or hiding because THEY need constant validation through other people.
Seriously, some people, acquaintances moreso than friends, call and call and they keep calling and they want to shoot the shit. About NOTHING of any importance.
No.
Thank.
You.
Why? What’s the purpose? What is so DAMN important that you need to call me every day (and sometimes several times / day)? Can’t it wait until I see you next? And why when we’re about to hang up, why in God’s sweet name do you want me to call you back? Didn’t we say there is to say???
Unless you’re a close friends of mine, I don’t care what you ate for lunch or that you hit every red light on the way to work and I don’t want to hear that your boyfriend cheated on you again, and that again, you’re not leaving. If you’re calling to make plans so we can go to lunch at some point, fine. If you’re calling because you really need a friend, fine. Even if you want to call to leave a message saying you were thinking of me and “no need to call back,” fine again. But, please, for the love of God, I am not the entertainment committee, I am not here to satisfy some sick need of yours to talk and talk and fucking talk. Go away and bother someone else, who, like you, needs gratification visa vis other people talking. Blah blah blah.
For God’s sake - SHUT UP!

Absolutely. Just once I’d like to walk up, take the cell phone, say “She’ll call you back later”… and then run over the bloody phone with a car.
