Four U.S. Citizen Children Deported Because of Lawyer’s Misdeeds

You know, 98% of the lawyers out there… make the rest of us look really, really bad!

Here’s just one more example - a heart-wrenching one.

A couple in Palo Alto, California - Isabel Aguirre and her husband Pedro Ramirez - a couple who had lived there for more than 20 years - having moved from their native Mexico in 1985, were deported following a Federal raid.

Because of this, their four children, all U.S. citizens, were faced with being deported with their parents, or going into foster care.

The kicker? The parents had all the necessary paperwork and were here legally - but the paperwork had lapsed and had not been renewed.

Why?

Because the lawyer they gave the renewal paperwork to - Michael Gadda - never took care of it!

And the government knows it’s the lawyer’s fault because Michael Gadda has been disbarred for multiple acts of misconduct, including at least five in which his clients were deported as a result of his misconduct!

How can there be no recourse for these people?

The Feds spend all this time, energy, and money on racially profiling perfectly innocent people at the airport looking for bad guys - fail to catch the bad guys - and then treat the good guys like the bad guys when everyone knows who the real bad guy here is?

Ok, I take it back..in this case it’s not really the lawyer who looks like the ba..oh wait..it’s all of them.

Except the poor family, at the mercy of a ridiculous legal system, mummified by red tape.

You can read about the whole sorry situation here, here, here, and here.

Crooked and/or greedy lawyers is one of those subjects where it’s better that I don’t get started. But disregarding them, if the government knows the “lawyer” at fault is at the heart of the issue, then it seems to me that it’s the government’s job to get the paperwork taken care of so that the family could stay together and in the US. Would have been easier, quicker, more humanitarian, and in the long run cheaper than what they wound up doing. But then it was probably lawyers working for the government (either senators, congressmen, or DHS/INS administrators) who set up the policy that led to this.

Our deeply rooted legal system is a system of laws. Unfortunately, we often
get so tied up in the laws that justice is lost in the morass. Here’s a fine
example of a place where an ombudsman could, at the very least, delay execution
of the law until it is determined that there is no further recourse and that
there is no excuse for exceptional handling. …and in this case the bungling
by the attorney ought to provide plenty of reason to overrule the law.

Alas, we don’t have an ombudsman. We also suffer from mass paranoia that keeps
many of us from speaking up. We ought to be petitioning congress to act on behalf
    of this family. Are we?
