I was a member of Freecycle for a long time. I always was trying to post things to give away to people, and to find things to help out my needy neighbors. The moderators, are nothing but jokes. They belittle everyone. If you make the smallest mistake while offering or asking for an item, you would get emailed at least 3 times to be told how idiotic you are, and how you will have to re-read the rules, be put on permanent moderation, all because I forgot to add in my town name?! I am writing to you about a disgusting book, 'The Pornographer of Vienna' by Lewis Crofts. Last weekend I was browsing in my local bookshop (Waterstones in Tunbridge Wells) and without warning in the fiction section came across said book, and was utterly shocked because it had a picture of a lady's private parts blatantly emblazoned on the spine. There was not even a sticker of warning or anything, and young children could easily have seen it. I do not think it is right that a book like that is freely displayed. I was a moderator for this total joke of an organization. Myself and my best friend both volunteered hours of our time for nearly a year keeping the boards free from spam and posts that were against the rules. The owner wasn't around-she abandoned the group. I emailed her numerous times and got no response. I then emailed the "national" Freecycle and told them what was going on. I've had it with sales people. What is it about them that means that they can't leave me alone to make a decision? Clothing stores, bookstores, furniture stores... A polite "can I help you?" is great! Even a couple of "that looks great on you"-style comments are nice to get. My son, an unemployed college student, was given his first credit card by JP Morgan Chase . Without any parental knowledge, Chase granted him an exorbitant line of credit (eventually up t0 $9600) and even allowed him to exceed that line of credit by $4,000. And all this without him needing to complete an application or even have a job! When my inexperienced and spend-happy college age son was, predicatably, unable to meet the minimum payment Chase promptly assessed a litany of fees and immediately raised the finance percentage from 6.9% to 29.99%. Came back with a flat in October that couldn’t be fixed and should have been replaced (road hazard warranty) thank God, or so I thought. Best Buy offered a promotion of a $100.00 gift card with a big purchase...the promotion had ended the day before but the salesman told me that it was cool and he would personally take care of it...so I filled out the forms and sent them in...today I received a little note saying..."Sooorrreee, no can do, you were a day late!" I can't stand the rule about watching out for resellers. I mean if people are willing to give the stuff away for free (almost like throwing it the trash) why is it that they are warning people about this. I sell on ebay and heard that freecycle was a good place to get things to sell, but have not even bothered to use it because of this. It really turned me off. Greetings to all that have no concept of time in regards to late night jaunts to the local burger joint. Yup you guessed it, I work for a semi-fast food restaurant. There is one thing that just rubs me more raw than sandpaper on a sunburned crotch ever could.
