I know that you must be stalling on actually getting my computer fixed, Mr. IT Guy. Is it because you like to see my face, glaring at you, three times a week? I notice how vehemently you defend Vista at the slightest insinuation that the "upgrade" to "Vista-piece-o-shita" has caused all of these problems (problems that were not there when I was on good ole' XP). Is this just your masked passion for me? I've had it with sales people. What is it about them that means that they can't leave me alone to make a decision? Clothing stores, bookstores, furniture stores... A polite "can I help you?" is great! Even a couple of "that looks great on you"-style comments are nice to get. But the constant pressure to buy is simply over the top - I end up leaving the store without purchasing and going somehwere else where the staff aren't so aggressive. I have no real love for marketers and marketing copywriters generally, but honestly, have you ever read the drivel that gets affixed to wine or attached to artwork? Who writes this crap?? Did they get their writing degree, if they have one, by drawing 'Spunky' from a matchbook? Do they actually take themselves seriously?? Does anyone take them seriously? Can you imagine being their kid, and having to go to school for "what does your parent do" day, and having to get up in front of a class and say "my daddy writes crap descriptions of wine"?? Why Is Hitler Not Ok, But Jim Jones Is? Kool it with the Jonestown References!

Here's a question. Why is it that every time someone invokes Hitler's name (Godwin's law, we in the geek Internet circles call it), everyone goes "OoooOOoooOooh! You can't say that!" But it's perfectly ok to invoke the Jonestown tragedy, in all sorts of situations, and nobody lifts an eyebrow?? My gawd. During the Jonestown tragedy *parents* gave their CHILDREN poisoned Kool-aid, knowingly killing their own children! WHY is it ok to compare people's actions to that horrific event? It isn't. So, why is it that those with minimal capabilities to see the big picture in sharp focus, and with minimal competancy as managers seem to be the very people who are running things? And why, as things become more and more like the Dilbert comic strip, does senior management add ever more analysts - financial and otherwise, while not addressing the fact that efficiency originates with those in the trenches, those who actually do the work, make the objects, sell the gizmo or provide the service?
