Wal-Mart Being Sued for Failing to Cater to Stupid People Who Don’t Use Contraception!

Can you believe it? Women in the state of Massachusetts are suing Walmart for failing to carry the "morning after" contraception pill in their pharmacies. In other words, these women are suing Wal-Mart because Walmart has refused to carry contraception for stupid people - i.e. something to take in the morning when they realize "oh darn, I did it, and didn't use contraception. Below is a copy of the email I sent to CNN about the 12 Danish cartoons that is pissing every radical Muslim off right now. ********** I am shocked that CNN would refuse to show the caricatures of the Islamic profit Mohammed out of respect for Muslims. Anytime a derogatory picture of Christ or Christianity is shown it is because of free speech. Why the dichotomy? The Toilet that Needed a Colonoscopy

Being homeowners, from time to time we suffer the slings and arrows of home ownership, namely something breaks and needs to be fixed..NOW! Such was the case with our main sewer line, which, as confirmed by two independent authorities, really needed to be replaced if we wanted the brown, foul-smelling slurry to stop backing up into our shower and bathtub, and onto our floors. The work completed, and water turned back on, we joyfully put our new plumbing to the test. And the master toilet promptly backed up, venting its spleen and bile, as it were, all over the bathroom (more...)

Just when you thought is was impossible to further butcher the English language, along comes another shortened, non-sensical 'word' used on message boards, chat rooms, and e-mail that may as well be in Sanskrit for all of its readability. Just what the hell is "l33t", exactly? High school and college students are turning in papers containing "w00t" and "ROFL". People are signing e-mail with "Laterz!". This is a rant which has been a long time in coming. That's because I see it nearly every day. You see, I subscribe to the Operation Amber mailing list, and so I see each and every one of the Amber Alerts which go out. That's pretty amazing to think about, isn't it? That there are Amber Alerts every single day. And that's the issue. And that's what this rant is about. OK, I don't often get riled up by TV personalities, but this is one woman who I can not stand. Unfortunately I often have to tolerate her, because I just moved and my internet is not set up yet so I have to go to my Grandmothers house to use hers. Her computer room is right next to the living room, and the TV is on the wall directly across from the door. Why Is Hitler Not Ok, But Jim Jones Is? Kool it with the Jonestown References!

Here's a question. Why is it that every time someone invokes Hitler's name (Godwin's law, we in the geek Internet circles call it), everyone goes "OoooOOoooOooh! You can't say that!" But it's perfectly ok to invoke the Jonestown tragedy, in all sorts of situations, and nobody lifts an eyebrow?? My gawd. During the Jonestown tragedy *parents* gave their CHILDREN poisoned Kool-aid, knowingly killing their own children! WHY is it ok to compare people's actions to that horrific event? It isn't. A few weeks ago I happened to wander into a Starbucks (California Avenue, Palo Alto, if you're keeping track). I know, I know, that's hardly an event of earth-shattering improbability, because if you're anywhere in the world where there's electricity and internal plumbing, you're scarcely more than 5 steps from a store. This morning, driving down that highway to hell, 101, in Silicon Valley, I had one of those moments where it made sense to me why it's not legal for new immigrants to own handguns. Merging onto the freeway, I accelerated, indicated, checked over my shoulder and started pulling into a welcoming space. At the same time, a young testosterone-filled young man swerved across three lanes of traffic, threading the eye of the needle, as he pulled into the space I was attempting to occupy. Ok, I thought. I don't know if this is a rant, but here it comes: It's been my experience that the liberals I know are, for the most part, very responsible people. What I don't understand is why these folks don't require that same personal responsibility from the "downtrodden." It seems they want the government to do everything for those less fortunate than themselves. Is that because they are trying to alleviate some kind of guilt feelings, or do they believe that everyone else is not as capable as them and therefore needs a helping hand? Have you noticed lately the trend for advocacy groups to employ those for whom they advocate? Isn't that nice of them? For example, I hear on the radio all the time about "homeless advocates". What? You mean, they aren't homeless? You mean that they are advocates for the homeless? But that's not what they said. They said that they are "homeless advocates". I originally drafted this rant a few years ago, but as we head into another presidential election round, it seems nothing has gotten any better: Listening today to the candidates for the upcoming presidential election, George W. Bush and John Kerry, each driveling their lackluster verbal pablum, it suddenly hit me as to just why our choices for President have been increasingly disheartening, disillusioning, and demoralizing. Voicemail hell replacing customer service

You know what's got me wrapped around the axle right now? Companies replacing actual people, living breathing talking and (sometimes) sentient people, with computerized voicemail systems. We've all had to face them - press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish and 3 for Tibetan Moon-phase chant. So it makes their lives easier, and improves their bottom line because they don't have to hire phone monkeys? Is that what they say? You know what - hire a phone monkey. Why is it that it's not acceptable to make fun of overweight people, but it's just a-okay to comment on a thin person's weight? What About the Families of the Death-Penalty Condemned?

There has been a lot in the press today about how the doctors hired to oversee Michael Angelo Morales' execution, to make sure that he didn't suffer crushing agony during his lethal injection, refused to carry out their task, saying that it was unethical for them, and went against the Hippocratic oath. They could have done it, technically and medically speaking, but it would be wrong, they said. The move by the doctors forced a delay in the execution, already delayed by a court ruling that the lethal injection may be cruel and unusual punishment, as there is ample evidence (more...)
