I really hate it when someone puts a link up on their site, a link to more information about something, or a page about something in which you are interested, and it turns out that it's not a link to another page or another site at all, it's a link to a !@#$%^&*! PDF file, which downloads to your drive with no warning! HOW RUDE! Now sure, it's sometimes easier to offer up information in PDF format. When you buy a thing, I don’t care what it is, you expect it to work -- to do its job, whatever that job happens to be. Grocery stores have taken to affixing stickers to produce: little stickers with a code number so the minimum-wage checkout guy can tell a Gala apple from a Jonagold. When you get said fruit home, you’ve got to peel that sticker off, often removing some of the fruit’s fragile peel in the process. "Government offices will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Schools will be closed in observance of Jackson-Lee Day." A few years ago, I was in Memphis on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I looked at this as an opportunity to get a glimpse into one of the most important tragic events in our national history, and planned to go down to Beale Street for the evening celebration. Two Muslim brothers from Brooklyn, Yasser and Hany Ibrahim, who were detained immediately following 9/11, then deported to Egypt on immigration violations and never charged with anything related to terrorism, are back in the states this week, in 24-hour Federal Marshall custody. Why? Yasser and Hany Ibrahim are here to give evidence in their lawsuit against the U.S. government. So, why is it that those with minimal capabilities to see the big picture in sharp focus, and with minimal competancy as managers seem to be the very people who are running things? And why, as things become more and more like the Dilbert comic strip, does senior management add ever more analysts - financial and otherwise, while not addressing the fact that efficiency originates with those in the trenches, those who actually do the work, make the objects, sell the gizmo or provide the service? So you think you are sane; but the mercury in you teeth speaks for you. New York State, among others, prohibits the discharge of your old silver mercury amalgam fillings into its sewers to stem the mercury contamination of its groundwater. Your dentist just put a new amalgam filling into your head. Isn't it peculiar the ADA claims the safety of this product in your head while state legislatures ban exactly the same product from their waste water systems? I don't solict or google pornography. However I was very pleased with Googles stance on not releasing their search records on porno. It is a freedom Google was defending and I couldn't have been more proud of them. Unfortunately that admiration turned to anger just a few days later. Google does not feel they have their market share in China. In order to "get into the game" they made a deal with the Chinese government. That deal was censorship. Other search engines had already complied with the Chinese censorship. Google once again was the hold out ... until now. I guess (more...)

Here I am, at work, about to euthanize a dog because his owner moved and simply does not want to take him. Offered to find the dog a home for her, no, she wants his body back. Same old story as it has been for years. Look, we kill enough, OK? We have the luxury of euthanizing those that are sick and in pain - doesn't make it easy, but we can swallow that. What's wrong with youth today?? No matter where you stand on the issue of Iraq - and I'm not saying where I stand on it, as it's not germane to the issue at hand - you have to admit that there are a lot of people who are strongly opposed to our involvement with the war in Iraq. In particular, there are a lot of young adults - or even not so young adults - adults between the ages of say 18 and 30, who are very opposed to the Iraq war. So where the hell are they all? Have you noticed that there is a new trend to wear house clothing outdoors? By "house clothing" I mean bathrobes, fuzzy slippers, and jammies. What the heck is up with that? Here is a perfect example. What the hell is this broad doing?? Here's what she has on: way-too-big jammie pants, with the top rolled down to the point of proving that she is majoring in plumbing in school, with... spike-heeled sandals (click "more" to see the pictures"). What I really hate, despite being guilty of it from time to time myself, is when I go to see a movie, and the person next to me is talking all the time. Not constantly, but frequently turning to me and saying, "What was that?" or "Did you see that?" I always get really aggravated that I paid 7 bucks for a movie, and the idiot next to me talks through half of the dialogue, so I have to go back and see it again in order to know what it's about. Now it should be known to anyone reading this, that I love my country. No matter what the media says, no matter what the rest of the world somewhat justifiably says, I love america. It is home. And for millions of others, the same holds true. And yet, we find our once-proud nation under siege by our former allies. I do not understand how anyone around my age (the oft-grouped 18-24-year-olds), especially those who attend a place of higher learning, can support the Republican party. Does not the nature of youth itself contradict the basic tenants of the GOP? How can someone at the age of twenty decide that he or she sympathizes most readily with a political party built upon the tenants of empowering the wealthy to abuse the working class, revert rather than progress civil liberties, and support the proliferation of war over peace?
